The profession that I now engage in was not always what I did. By now you have learned that I once served the Navy on active duty and as a civilian with a Merchant Mariners Document. Truthfully, Military Sealift Command was the most lucrative employment that I have ever had. Sometimes politics can make a government job stressful enough that it just is not worth enduring any longer. But none of us start off with big money and we have to pay our dues. Today many jobs that kids used to do for just a little spending money are being done by adults.
You may not think it possible but I learned basic seamanship working at Lock 27 on the Barge Canal in Lyons, New York. It was a meaningful job for a kid my age. I used to ride my bike all the way from Savannah to Lyons along Route 31 everyday. I brought a fishing pole with me and a few night crawlers that I found in my back yard and after I finished my lunch I would toss the line down over the spill way from the old power house. I would take a lunch bucket full of fish home nearly everyday until the folks had their fill of fish. When I received my pay from that job I really thought I was making money.. It was a way for some of us poor kids to earn some money while doing work for government agencies that saved the expense of hiring a full time adult to take care of the menial tasks such as washing windows and burning out spider nests.
Over the years I have engaged in many occupations in many different industries .Twice in my life I have had to work to harvest and transplant produce. I once had a paper route but was a failure at it, to many people wanted the paper but they did not want to pay their bills when due. I once worked as a carnival worker travelling all over the state of Texas. I drove taxi in San Antonio and in Houston. I worked at a company that built roof trusses. I worked for Holly Farms in Seguin , Texas which Tyson bought out in later years. I worked as a 7-11 Night Manager and got robbed to. I have worked for 6 different security companies. I worked as an electrician helper in San Antonio in the residential sector and I have even worked as an electrician aboard custom mega yachts. I worked as a volunteer at Jacob's Well in Concord California when ever I got away from my Navy duties. I have driven 18 wheeler cross country in the lower 48 and regional South East as well. I even got to try to sell cars.
I have never liked being unemployed or sitting around the house. Even when I was disabled from my first trucking job I fooled around with the flea market . For the latter half of 2008 and for first half of 2009 I had worked for free representing a startup insurance company. At first I was acting as a marketing director on my dime trying to get the name out there and later I was tasked to teach product knowledge to new agents. When my children were out of school for the summer of 2009 I chose to take a leave of absence for family reasons. All this time I was trying to find a job and had not been successful so I decided to go back to school and get a bachelors degree in history so that I can teach. I am currently pursuing that degree online with Ashford University, I recently finished my sixth course with Ashford and I am now on my seventh
